Mate

Mate e. Paraguai tee. Lõuna-Ameerikas kultiveeritava Mate lehtedest tee. On väga armastatud jook just Brasiilias, Argentiinas ja Tšiilis. Mate lehti ei korjata niinagu teepõõsalehti vaid murtakse okstena, samuti ei fermenteerita vaid kuivatatakse trumlites lahtisel tulel. Pärast kuivatamist eemaldatakse oksad ja praht ning purustatakse lehed ja sorteeritakse, pakitakse kvaliteedi järgi. Matelehed sisaldavad kofeiini, vitamiine ja parkaineid ning seetõttu valmistatakse temast kosutavat jooki. Teed valmistatakse nii kuuma kui külma veega pudelkõrvitsast valmistatud kalebassi ja juuakse erilise kõrre- bombilla abil, ulatades kalebassi ringselt käest-kätte.

Mate, also known as Paraguay tea. Mate is cultivated in South-America. This is a very beloved drink especially in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Mate leaves are not picked like the leaves of tea shrubs. Instead, they are broken by branches. They are also not fermented, instead they are dried in drums over an open fire. After drying, the branches and trash are removed, followed by the crushing of leaves, grading and packing by quality. Mate leaves contain caffeine, vitamins, tannins, and therefore it gives an invigorating brew. Mate tea is prepared with hot or cold water to a calabash gourd, and is drunk with a special straw (bombilla) in ceremonies passing it from hand to hand.
